“Mourad Meghni opens his heart to Echorouk”
Echorouk's correspondent based in Doha has met with Algeria international, Mourad Meghni, who is currently present in the Qatari capital to pursue a medical treatment for his knee-injury under the supervision of renowned surgeon Chalabi at the Asbitar hospital where several Algerian players were treated with success in the recent past.
- Seizing the opportunity of the encounter with Mourad Meghni, Echorouk’s correspondent asked him to reply to some questions about his current health condition and his immediate future with his Italian club of Lazio of Rome and of course with the Algeria football squad.
- Echorouk : Why are you back in Qatar?
- Meghni : Obviously, I am back again in the Qatari capital to follow up on his medical treatment after the surgical operation on my knee performed diligently by doctor Chalabi.
- I want to know if I am well on the way to full recovery.
- Echorouk: While in Qatar, have you received any recruitment offers from first-division Qatari clubs?
- Meghni : Not at all, I have received no offers in Qatar and reports pointing to his effect were mere rumours with no basis.
- Echorouk : Now, when do you surmise are you going to make your much-awaited comeback on the pitch?
- Meghni : I just can’t tell you when I will be back on the pitch. I am planning to stay here in Doha for about two weeks for a check-up and more medical care under the close supervision of Doctor Chalabi before moving on to Rome to join my Italian outfit of Lazio.
- I guess that I need a month from now to be fit again slowly but surely owing to my long absence from the practice of football as a consequence of the intricate knee-injury I sustained about 8 months ago.
- Echorouk : Frankly speaking, if you had followed your medical treatment only in France without joining the Isbitar hospital in the Qatari capital Doha, would you be on the way to recovery now?
- Meghni : Absolutely not. I should say that I had found in the Isbitar hospital in Doha all the necessary medical care and thoughtful attention on the part of highly-qualified doctors and surgeons who are doing a remarkable job in this world-renowned health facility with much success.
- Echorouk : Is it true that you intend to take up again with the French first-league championship next season?
- Meghni : No, I am not at all planning for the time being to join again the French championship.
- I have received no offers from French clubs to this effect as I am still under medical treatment.
- Echourouk : How did you feel when you heard from the technical staff that you couldn’t take part in the 2010 world cup contest because of you knee injury?
- Meghni : In a word, I was dumbfounded and in very low spirits as I had great ambitions with the Algeria line-up during this prestigious world football jamboree in South Africa.
- Echorouk : What do you think of the performance displayed by the Greens of Algeria in the recent world cup in South Africa?
- Meghni : Well, the Greens displayed on the whole a rather good performance and could have done quite better if they had scored goals in this world contest despite the high caliber of their opponents namely England, the USA and Slovenia.
- Echorouk : In view with their latest results, are you confident of seeing the Greens of Algeria secure a berth in the finals of the upcoming Africa cup of nations’ competition to be jointly hosted in 2012 by Gabon and Guinea Bissau?
- Meghni : Despite the grueling task ahead, I am truly confident in the Greens’ ability and prowess to take up again with a string of victories in the next fixtures and to secure a meritorious qualification for the final round of the 2012 CAN competition.
