Nabil Fekir: “My decision is made but joining Algeria squad isn’t to be ruled out altogether”

Talented Lyon’s midfielder Nabil Fekir said that he has finally decided to join the under-23 France football squad after broad and protracted consultations, stressing that he has not closed the door however on the Algeria national line-up.

Fekir said that his decision was difficult to take, adding that he wanted to concentrate now on the present moments before pondering on the future notably regarding a possible inclusion into the Algeria football squad.

Nabil Fekir has been reluctant of late whether to play for Algeria and France after both sides said they were interested in having him available for international selection.

The French-born player of Algerian origin produced a string of fine displays with the Lyon team this football season in France, establishing himself as a regular starter.  

“I’m very hesitant,” Fakir told French media outlets on Wednesday.

“It is a crucial decision and I don’t want to have any regrets.”

France’s youth team Coach Pierre Mankowski heaped praise on playmaker Nabil Fekir, saying he is impressed with his performances at Lyon.

On the other hand, Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff revealed that he had met with the player and that he understands the reasons of his reluctance.

“I understand that he needs time to decide his fate. He has to take time to make his decisions without any pressure,” Gourcuff told newsmen.
