National strike threatens Baccalaureate exams in Algeria
The National Education Worker’s Union is expected to go on strike on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday every week starting from June 6th.
- The National Coordinator of professional workers Nadjib Ben Medrou told Echorouk on the phone the strike will directly touch BEM and Baccalaureate exams due to be held in June 5th and June 11th respectively.
- “The workers are in charge of missions directly linked to exams running as papers distribution and supervision operations,” he said.
- “That will not happen because of the strike which has become the last means to put pressure on the education ministry to satisfy the workers’ claims,” he added.
- According to a release issued from the Coordination, the strike decision was made after studying reports from 37 provinces in Algeria. They show that the education workers suffer from a serious situation and deputies did not answer their call for help on April 2nd.
- The workers are asking for fair salary system and a legal text to protect them from officials’ repression.
