Nationwide strike in education sector slated for early February
Aboubakr Benbouzid

The showdown between the education authorities and the autonomous trade unions of the education sector is once again in the limelight with the unions threatening to stage a new nationwide strike in early February to press for long-delayed salary hikes and other social benefits.

  • A trade union representative told the press that the projected strike movement in the education sector was planned for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of next February with the aim of bringing the relevant authorities to live up to the teachers’ legitimate professional claims.
  •
  • After about a month of respite, the autonomous trade unions linked to the education sector have taken up again with their strike action in order to drive the relevant ministerial department headed by Abou Bakr Benbouzid to forsake its unyielding attitude regarding some of the teachers’ pending claims, he explained.
  •
  • Another trade union executive went as far as to demand the departure of education minister Benbouzid as a way towards defusing the current tension and addressing seriously and with no ulterior motives the pressing concerns and grievances of the teachers in order to clear, once and for all, the air in the volatile national education sector.
