Network mobilizes girls to smuggle gold in return for 100,000 DZ

The judicial police opened an investigation into the smuggling of considerable quantities of Algerian gold to Gulf countries. The son of a former minister and a former executive at the finance ministry are involved. They formed an organized networks and mobilized girls aged between 25 and 35 to smuggle gold in return for 100,000 DZ per each operation, Echorouk has learnt.

The case goes back to October. A total of 500g of gold were seized with a 27-year-old girl. She planned to smuggle it to the UAE at around 11:45 pm. 

Investigations showed that the girl is used to smuggle gold to the Arab Gulf countries including UAE and Saudi Arabia. Nine other girls also smuggle gold before it is imported to Algeria.

The investigations also showed that those girls were mobilized by an organized network led by the son of a former minister and a former executive at the finance ministry. 

 According to figures given by customs,  Algeria imports 80 percent of gold from the UAE. This country is a transit place for Chinese goods. Gold mafias buy considerable quantities of gold and recycle it in secret markets. Then, it is sold again in Algeria as Italian gold at double prices compared to real prices in the Algerian market.
