New divorce case in Algeria every 10 minutes
Couples get divorced each 10 minutes in Algeria leaving more than 100,000 children victims of separation, according to figures from the Algerian justice ministry.
The same figures show that the annual number of divorce cases is estimated at 60,000.
The ministry warned against the “fast divorce” phenomenon which lasts for one or two months only.
“A total of 60,000 divorce cases have been reported in Algeria since the beginning of the year. Divorce has become a scaring phenomenon causing serious social problems. That needs a study to find out real reasons behind it,” chief of Womens’ Algerian Observatory Chaia Djaafari told Echorouk.
“I received many cases of couples who had been married for one month only. They found themselves in court to ask for divorce. This show that divorce in Algeria is due to silly reasons related to the absence of responsibility spirit and honesty,” she added.
Speaking about early divorce, she said it has become scary. “It is amongst others due to betrayal, getting married at an early age, bad choice and exaggerated jealousy.”
