New law to upgrade municipalities’ workers status in the offing
The General Directorate of the Public Service has received the latest revisions related to the law governing the municipalities’ personnel which, by and large, guarantees an unspecified terrm contracts for the job seniors.
- It should be noted that there are some employees who worked for 20 years without a permanent status. One of the provisions provided in the revised law concerns the upgrading of the garbage collectors status to pass from the first to the third degree.
- The law is due out in the upcoming few days.
- The National Federation of Municipality workers Secretary General has yesterday revealed to “Echourok” that the law governing the employees’ sector is due to be released next April, according to the relevant ministry’s pledges.
- M Omar Ighousman has indicated that permanent contacts are underway with the interior ministry in a move to issue the law at earliest, noting that some 200 thousand workers will benefit from it all sectors included.
- The law is expected to settle the case of 45 thousand retired people of the sector who get their pension from the municipality’s budget and reassert job activities neglected in the past like biologists , tax assessors and stadium stewards.
