No Mobiles, Electronic Equipments on Planes' Luggage Compartiment

Mobiles, Tablets, PCs, and all the equipments that have lithium batteries will be banned in the planes’ luggage compartment for all international flights of Civil Aviation, by the beginning of April.

This means that the mobiles’ prices will notice a large increase in view of the elimination of this type of trade, which provided mobiles and electronic equipments with prices that are lower than those which are imported.
International Civil Aviation Organization announced that April 1, will be the date for the prevention of taking any equipments that have lithium batteries in the planes’ luggage compartment, because there is a risk of ignition and explosion of these batteries, as passengers will be forced to take these equipments with the hand baggage and cannot put them in the planes’ luggage compartment .
These measures will have repercussions on the activity of Algerian luggage traders who bring mobile phones, especially from China, Dubai, and to a lesser extent from Turkey and even from France and some European countries, and the quantity of mobile phones and electronic equipment that have lithium batteries will decline, and these traders will be in front of an inevitability of bringing a very limited amount of hand baggage in the plane.
This procedure is expected, according to followers, to contribute to increasing the mobile phones and tablets’ prices, on the grounds that large quantities of them were exported to Algeria through the luggage, and are not subject to customs duties, and therefore they are sold at a reasonable price, and less than those which are exported legally and under customs duties.
A source from the customs told Echorouk, that other measures will be taken to limit the number of mobile phones that are exported in this way to Algeria, especially since control is now limited only on the hand luggage, saying that people who abused this type of trade should use the legal ways, which are passing through customs and paying fees and obtain the necessary documents for that.
Many countries across the world started in the application of this procedure to prevent carrying devices that have the lithium batteries in the luggage compartment, such as China, for example, that prevented the shipment of this equipment, both in the domestic or international flights.
