Russia will not attend OPEC’s informal meeting in Algiers because it is not a member of this organization, General Secretary of OPEC, Mohammed Barkindo said during a press conference on the sidelines of OPEC meeting that is held in Algiers Conference Hall Abdellatif Rahal.

“Russia neither pulled out from the meeting nor opposed the negotiation and consultations that started in Algiers to agree on fair solutions in order to rise the price of oil barrel”.

“All the parties agree on the meeting and currently negotiations are still ongoing, and there are bilateral meetings between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and other parties as well. Urgent decisions can be made at any moment”.

“OPEC is seeking to expand the number of members of this organization in order to enlarge its power. We are negotiating with several countries in order to persuade them to join OPEC, as Gabon joined us recently. Algeria has a leading role, and the meeting is of great importance, because it is one of the most important meetings that are held since the beginning of oil crisis”.

For his part, Energy Minister, Noureddine Bouterfa, said that Russia will not attend the meeting, not because of differences with other countries. Algeria will remain optimistic until the last minute of the meeting”.
