Ouyahia’s party for limited presidential mandate
Ahmed Ouyahia, the RND's leader
The National Democratic Rally (RND) Thursday said in a release it is for limited presidential mandates in Algeria.
- The RND speaks in favour of organising the executive power and encouraging political pluralism consolidation through a two-term mandate.
- Ahmed Ouyahia’s party suggests that the nominated Prime Minister should be member of the majority party in the People’s National Assembly (APN) or the party which has the largest number of seats.
- Earlier in November 2008, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika amended the Constitution making the presidential mandate unlimited.
- The president of the Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah and two advisors of the head of the government started consultations with political parties and national personalities as part of political reforms.
