Over 20.000 doctors and dentists decide to launch a series of sit-ins

National Council of the Union of Practitioners of Public Health decided to break the social truce declared a year ago following the five months’ strike which has paralyzed hospitals in Algeria.

The union called upon 20.000 doctors, dentists and pharmacists to participate in two sit-ins, the first out of the headquarters of Health Ministry next Thursday and the second for next week out of the government palace in Algiers.

Practitioners of Public Health join the protests of resident doctors and launch an open strike, which would lead to the closure of Algerian hospitals if Health Ministry will not realize its promises that lasted for a whole year, while resident doctors decide a sit-in on Tuesday out of Health Ministry.

Head of the NUPPH, Lyes Mrabet announced here on Tuesday the break of social truce and return to protests after more than a year following Health Ministry’s call for a dialogue after a five moths strike.

For his part, the Independent Bloc of Resident doctors calling for the abolition of the civil service for doctors newly graduated, organize a sit-in before the Ministry of Health on Tuesday and decide an open strike.
