Over one million Algerians born in Tunisia are living hard time

Developments of events in Tunisia led to more complicated situations of Algerians born there, and who have conditions which require movements to Algeria for obtaining birth certificates.

Movements of people between the two countries reach lowest levels because of the absence of transportation and closure of the land border ports by the Tunisian side.

The cost of a copy of certificate in Tunisia reaches 1000 dinars, this if it is released, because archives were burned in a lot of headquarters and offices.

Recent developments caused concerns among these people, who called for the creation of special archives at the level of Algerian municipalities, noting that the issuance of birth certificates for people who are not born in Algeria at the level of municipalities of birth, Tunisian and Algerian embassies or consulates, and headquarters of the Tunisian Foreign Affairs Ministry in Algiers.

Number of Algerians born in Tunisia between 1940 and 1962 reaches over one million people, according to official estimates, while other sources asserted that the figures exceed three million.

On the other hand, a number of Tunisians living in Algeria rejected the idea of organizing rallies in front of their country’s embassy in Algiers, Tebessa and Annaba consulate, east of Algeria, after they decided to launch a step that express their interaction with what occurs in Tunisia and for solidarity with activists of the “Jasmine Revolution”  .

Echorouk sources said that they rejected the idea of protests in order to avoid getting into trouble with the Algerian authorities, which us the subject of high esteem because they provided facilities and exceptional privileges for them.
