Parliamentary Questions Are Asked About Retrieving Skulls Of Algeria Martyrs From France

MP Lakhdar Ben Khallaf, head of Al Adala Walbina (justice and construction) bloc of the National People’s Assembly, asked on Tuesday, the Mujahideen (war veterans) Minister about retrieving the skulls and remains of the first Algeria martyrs that are preserved in the Musée de l’Homme in the French capital Paris.

This question is the second after the one that was addressed to Zitouni last year during the previous parliamentary mandate.

According to the text of the question, which copy is available to Echorouk, the National Museum of Natural History in Paris still preserves today the remains of dozens of Algerian revolutionary martyrs who resisted the French colonialism in the nineteenth century, as these remains, which are mostly the original skulls of martyrs Mohamed Ben Lamdjad Ben Abdelmalek, who is known as Boubaghla and Sheikh Bouzine, the leader of Zaatsha resistance in 1948, Moussa Darkaoui, Si Mokhtar Ben Kaddour al-Titrawi and Issa al-Hammadi, and the complete mold of the head of  Mohamad Ben Allal, who is the right arm of Emir Abdul Kader.

MP Lakhdar asked about the absence of an initiative from the ministry to ensure the restoration of these remains a century ago, in a willingness to study any request in this regard by the administration of the French Musée de l’Homme, as it was said by Director of the museum Michel Guiraud that there is no legal problem, but it is only waiting for a political decision.

Lakhdar Ben Khallaf asserted that retrieving the skulls of Algeria resistance leaders is a political issue and the issue of the homeland and the people and not a family issue that is posed by their families, but the matter is related to extraordinary heroes and warriors who are known for their great courage and steadfastness in the fight against the French colonizer and who have sacrificed their lives for that.
