Dozens of Algeria young patients with intractable cancerous tumors decided to freeze their sperm and embryos because of their inability to conceive after suffering chemical and radiation therapy which mostly kills any chance of reproduction in the future, following the tips they received from their doctors who observed their cases, Head of the Algerian Association For Helping Artificial Procreation, Farid Djendar, said.

“This procedure is an appropriate solution for these young couples who want to marry and have kids in the future, which a guarantee for the continuation of their descendants”.

“Freezing process costs 10.000 DZD, in addition of course to the costs of medical intervention and medication, and costs that are paid annually, to keep them frozen”.

“Our medical clinic in Algiers Ain Taya received dozens of cases, once the patients were informed with cancer, as their doctors ask them if they are married or not, and whether they want to have kids in the future, then they give them addresses for a consultation and the formation of an overall idea, and most of those cases did not get married and decide to keep their sperms frozen”.

“Process of freezing sperm extends to many years when all the necessary conditions are disposed, and they are kept permanently, only if the concerned take a decision to get rid of them or in case of death”.

Dr. Djendar ruled out all the concerns about the possibility of confusion between the samples in the banks of birth, emphasizing that they are subject to the control of high precision and stringent, as they are kept safe to avoid any disruption no matter how small.

“Algeria counts 15 centers to help artificial procreation, and only one of them exists in the public sector in Algiers Parnet Hospital”.

“Problem in Algeria is that there is no center to teach these techniques, so we seek to sensitize the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the inclusion of this specialty in universities, and our association is ready to provide training sessions”.

“Results in the Algerian centers are very honorable, and they exceed 30%, which is higher than what is achieved by France in this area and even Tunisia and Jordan, that are frequented by most Algerians. Reluctance of citizens is the lack of information and knowledge, as most physicians direct their patients to foreign countries”.
