Penalty point driving licence system: 16 points for experienced drivers, 8 for beginners

ALGIERS- The draft executive decree on the driving licence with penalty point system, currently examined by the Government, will enable the holders of a driving licence to get 16 points and 8 for holders of provisional licences (beginners), said Thursday here Police Chief Superintendent Aissa Naili.

This new measure is inspired from the French model, though the number of points is different (12 in France), Naili told the National Radio, adding that this penalty point driving licence system “is an administrative tool that gives the driver a sense of responsibility.”
