Police Intelligence Foils ISIS Plots In Algeria

National security intelligence arrested, through the creation of what it called the “electronic army”, over 160 Algerians who have a direct relationship with ISIS in Iraq, Syria and Libya, and dismantled more than 30 cells that are seeking to attract youth to recruit them through internet websites and social media, especially “Facebook” and “Twitter” for the benefit of terrorist organizations.

According to Echorouk sources, the national security intelligence or what is called the “police intelligence”, managed, through the coordination with its electronic army, that is spread across the provinces of the country, and which works 24 hours to monitor the websites that incite terrorism and accounts that call for joining ISIS, and some violent fatwas, to decode messages that are exchanged between youth and terrorists by using modern technological system that was developed by police officers, parallel with raising the level of information war, in the face of cyber-crime, which allowed to foiling many terrorist plans and attacks.

Over 20 Reports On Terrorist Publications, Forums

Sources at the General Directorate of Security told Echorouk that the police services receive, at the central level, between 15 and 20 communications of terrorist publications’ propaganda or posts in terrorist forums, and contacts, either by phone or via internet, carrying suspicions of local and international terrorist organizations, which enabled it, within 10 months of the current year, from arresting 160 people, and dismantling more than 30 cells that are working to support terrorism and backing it up electronically.

Electronic army, that belongs to the police intelligence, has the mission of retracing the lawsuit of the Jihad activity on the Internet accurately, and tracking the cells that recruit terrorists to fight in Syria and Iraq within the ranks of ISIS, Annosrah and supporters of al-Sham and other groups that attract young Algerians, by tracking the IP address of Internet, and persons with a relationship to these web sites, to gain access to those who are standing behind these cells, making it succeed in preventing the Algerians from joining these terrorist organizations.

Investigations that were carried out by the “police intelligence” found that the recruitment cells work on targeting youth from slums and entice them with money, and attract girls, especially the desperate through luring and convincing them to join the terrorist organization in Libya, Syria and Iraq in the framework of the so-called the “sexual jihad.”

Most dangerous recruitment cells that were dismantled this year by security services, the cell of “Kifah” (struggle) in Annaba province (eastern Algeria), which includes six elements, including Algerians and Tunisians who are active within the international cell for the recruitment of young Algerians, who are mostly descended from Annaba, Skikda, Gualma, El Taref and Souk Ahras, in order to join the fighting in Syria, under the banner of the organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and al Shem, and in Blida province (western Algiers), they dismantle another cell which consists of 8 people, with the mission to recruit young men and women in ISIS.

Police intelligence investigations arrested an Algerian “M.A” called Ouamer, who belongs to ISIS, at Houari Boumediene International Airport, as he coordinated with some traders in black market for facilitating the return of many Algerians who have joined this organization in Iraq and Syria to Algeria.

Algeria electronic army succeeded in foiling attempts to target a number of official buildings and major commercial places like Algiers Bab Ezzouar and Ardis Malls, and “Park Mall” in Setif (eastern Algeria).
