Possible release on parole of Cheb Mami, his lawyer says

Cheb Mami's defense lawyer has started a legal procedure which could allow the detained Algerian singer to be set free on parole under certain conditions.  

• According to the French law, a convict can benefit from such a measure when the sentence which remains for him to spend in detention is equal or less than 4 years or if he is in charge of a child under age of less than 10 years.
• This applies to the case of Cheb Mami whose real name is Mohamed Khelifati.
• However, if Cheb Mami is released on parole as stipulated by the legislation in force in France, his movements will be monitored by a French Judge from the Paris tribunal.
• The French justice is bound to give a reply to Cheb Mami’s lawyer within two to six weeks but there is every probability that the request will be given the seal of approval in the light of the solid arguments brought by the defense lawyer.
