Post-Saâdane era clears the way for local players to join Algeria squad

There is every indication that the departure of national team coach Rabah Saâdane after the weak performance last Friday of the Algeria squad versus a modest Tanzania team (1-1) at the Tchaker stadium of Blida as part of the first qualifier of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations' contest will now clear the way for the long-neglected local players to join the Algerian national football line-up.

  • Reliable sources say that the new provisional national coach Benchikha is now intent on calling up four local players from the first-division teams of JS Kabylie and ES Sétif namely Fawzi Chaouchi, Said Belkalem, Lamouchia and Hadj Aissa.
  • The main objective behind such a move is to beef up the Algeria line-up in expectation of the next Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifier versus the national squad of the Central African Republic in about a month from now.
  • The same sources added that new coach Benchikha was expected to test at least 10 local players from the national first-division championship most of them hailing from such flagship teams as JS Kabylie, ES Sétif and MC Algiers as part of the revamping of the Algeria squad in order to brace up more efficiently for the upcoming CAN qualifiers.
