Protesters disappointed over Bouteflika’s speech

Most of independent organisations which are behind a series of strikes in Algeria described President Bouteflika’s speech as “disappointing.”

  • The organisations said the speech marginalised a large category of the society like students, doctors and workers.

  • Coordinators of protests including independent unions Saturday said Bouteflika’s speech did not satisfy their aspirations.

  • Superior Schools Union submitted a report about protests to students to decide about possible marches on Sunday.
  •  
  • Students started mobilisation through the Internet to participate in a march due to be held on Tuesday.
  •   
  • Education independent unions are still insisting on their demands and a national strike due to be held next week. The National Council of Municipality Workers warned over going on open strike.

  • Representatives of municipal guards said they are determined more than ever to continue their protests as the president had ignored their demands.
  •  
  • Most of the angry people and protesters including students and workers staged their sit-in out of the President’s Office in Algiers. They asked Bouteflika to intervene after his ministers had failed in settling their preoccupations.
