The Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights Wednesday announced the creation of a cell to protect public money and fight corruption.

  • “The creation of Public Money Protection and Counter Corruption Cell was due to the propagation of corruption in all the country’s sectors and institutions. That may lead to the collapse to the Algerian State’s landmarks,” said the league’s Secretary General Moumene Khalil.
  •
  • “Fighting corruption must come through people’s integration in awareness-raising and notification process,” he added.
  •
  • The new institution includes seven members. They are lawyers and trade unionists in public administration. It calls on all the independent organisations and civil society to unify their efforts to counter corruption.
  •
  • The cell is expected to hold direct meetings with people to talk about prevention against corruption. It will also organise training sessions for journalists.
