Queens Park Rangers English Football Club, which prepares to return to the excellent division by the end of the season, set to launch a cheeky £600,000 bid for Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra, the Sunday mail reported on Monday.

Gers are set to sell the Algeria ace in the summer but will want at least £2million for him.

He has a year left to go on his contract but has made it clear he has no intention of prolonging his stay at Ibrox.

Rangers’ chief executive Martin Bain recently offered the player a two-year extension to his deal but Bougherra declined to put pen to paper. Several European and Middle East clubs – including Qatari side Lekhwiya – are keen, but Bougherra wants to sample the English Premiership.

The Loftus Road men are in line to be promoted from the Championship and QPR gaffer Neil Warnock knows he would need to strengthen his squad.

QPR believe a fee of around £600,000 is fair considering the player’s contractual situation.

Bougherra knows about the interest from the Londoners and wants to learn more about their ambitions for next season, should they gain promotion.

The Algerian hopes Rangers will not stand in his way and price him out of a move if Warnock comes calling.

Meanwhile, Lekhwiya are thought to be offering the defender a £35,000-a-week tax-free deal to play in Qatar.

Bougherra was in the Gulf state this month for treatment on his hamstring injury. He said at the time: “The Qatari League is one of the best in the Gulf and in Asia. We will see what happens.”
