QS Worldwide University Rankings 2014 shows that Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Cambridge and Imperial College in USA are on the top because of the growing interest in scientific and technological research with high impact, and during the classification, which included 700 Universities from the five continents, there was no Algerian university.

Quacquarilli Symonds from QS Company said on Tuesday that the global interest in scientific and technological research with high impact, is one of the main causes that prompted these universities to rank top of “QS” World Universities 2014.

For the third year in a row, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranks top of “QS World Universities, as the number of citations inacademic publications for each faculty member at the institute increased to reach the rate of 14% compared to last year.

Britain’s Imperial College, also showed the same rate of increase (14%), in this measure compared to an average of 11% for the University of Cambridge, and 2% for Harvard University. As for the other top ten universities worldwide, the average increase in the standard rate is 7%,noting that the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) has maintained the lead as the top university in the world for the number of citationsin academic publications for each faculty member.

According to the company “QS ” Quacquarilli Symonds, all the first ten universities have realized excellent results in academic reputation, a reputation among employers, the proportion of faculty members to the number of students, in addition to the percentage of students and foreign faculty members at the university.

Algerian universities did not occupy any place in the ranking, which classified 700 universities across the world, as in Africa Uiversity of CapeTown, in South Africa ranked first, and 141 globally, in the Arab World Saudi Arabia universities are in advanced ranking somewhat, as the King Fahd and King Saud Universities ranked 225 and 249, respectively, and Zionist universities Zionism occupied advanced ranking as well, like the University of Jerusalem wihich ranked 138 globally, followed by the Israel Institute of Technology which ranked 190, and then the University of Tel Aviv, that ranked 195.

This new report, is the worst for the Algerian Universities, compared to the report of Shanghai Group a few days ago, which did not show a trace of Algerian universities or institutes in the global ranking, although it included 500 universities across the world, as Algeria was unable tooccupy the lowest ranking, just as it was similar in global rankings.

our universities are unblievably backward. we did nothing to talk about. as Sid have commented, we are professional is stealing only. the money granted for research and developement are used to finance the trips of the lecturers for no benifit (tourism). truth be told. mediocrity is everywhere, i have visited many universities in southeast asia and have seen countires developing and people producing. it is a big shame to read such article. i wish we wd have a wise leadership.
