Raffarain adressing the France-Algeria partnership forum in Algiers

Deputy Speaker of the French Senate, Former Prime Minister Jean Pierre Rafrain has pleaded for a jobs generating partnership between France and Algeria.

Mr Raffrain co chairs with Algeria Minister of SMEs Mohamed Benmeradi a partnership forum on French and Algerian enterprises and investment, being held in Algiers.

Former French PM said “We are determined providing our citizens, job opportunities, and we are making sure boosting bilateral investments and partnership,” between Algeria and France.

It is a matter of setting up a “common strategy” between the two Mediterranean nations in terms of “social aspirations and the geopolitical position,” he said.

“It’s obvious that there is a common strategy between Algeria and France (…) employment is our ultimate objective, and the economic activity should meet social aspirations that should be at the core of our policies,” he said.

Geopolitically, Mr Raffarain assumed that “We are aware that Europe needs Africa, and vice-versa. It’s a vision shared by governments in both countries.”

He further qualified Algeria’s investment environment as “good,” reaffirming that France is “interested in investing in Algeria, notably in cement, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries.”

To recall, 500 Algerian enterprises and 150 French ones are taking part in the aforementioned partnership forum in Algiers.

Several workshops have been scheduled on public and private partnership, training and experience transfer, as well as another workshop on innovations in Algeria.

The forum will be concluded by a joint news conference to be held by Jean Pierre Raffarain and Mohamed Benmeradi.
