Ramadhan-2016: Meat “halal” imported from 10 countries
This year’s Ramadhan, the Algerian government has chosen 10 countries from which it will import fresh and frozen red meat.
These imports will be opened gradually and operated according to demand during this holy month of fasting and will involve much more fresh red meat than the frozen one.
The Secretary General of the National Union of Algerian peasants, Mr Alioui Mohamed, said that special licenses will be delivered by the relevant authorities for the import of meat during this month and only during this month, primarily from Sudan, but also from Uruguay, Brazil, etc.
He added that interested importers can get in touch with the Trade Ministry services to file their applications in order to obtain the proper license allowing them to engage in red meat import activities.
This will be an exclusive import for the month of Ramadhan in order to break the prices of the highly consumed meat during this special period of the year and to make them within the reach of the ordinary citizen.
For the rest of the year, local production is sufficient to meet national needs in meat consumption.
