Ramtane Lamamra: “We Should Updated Counter Terrorism Methods”

State, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, called upon the participants in the high-level fourth forum for peace and security in Africa, that is organized in Oran (western Algeria), to the need to intensify efforts to fight terrorism in the region and dry up the sources of funding it and increasing coordination and cooperation between African countries and with international organizations, and make the success of the effort to stop the use of arms by 2020, and support the Saharawi people to self-determination.

Works of the high-level forum for peace and security in Africa was launched Saturday, in the “Meridien Hotel” in Oran (western Algeria), which became internationally known as the path of Oran, according to the Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra, who focused during the opening of the works on the need to show more coordination and cooperation between African countries on several levels, including the most important issues, like of the fight against the phenomenon of terrorism, explaining that organizations like “ISIS and Boko Haram and al-Qaeda” developed its methods and influence in the recruitment and terrorism by funding it from the drug trade, smuggling and hostage-taking for ransom.

“There is an urgent need to modernize the methods of fighting terrorism by increasing coordination in the exchange of information and governance, economic development and launching preventive awareness campaigns that focused on the level of educational institutions, mosques and public spaces”.

Participants in the 4th forum will discuss the plan for halting the use of weapons by the prospects of 2020 by focusing on several topics, including the sale of arms, economic development and the fight against poverty and good governance, as this plan will come into effect starting from January 2017.

“We should lift up the coordination with the United Nations (UN) and the UN Security Council by the non-permanent membership of the three countries, and to strengthen the partnership to fight terrorism and at the same time to find African solutions to African problems”.

Regarding the Moroccan occupation in Western Sahara, the foreign minister said that the year 2016 noticed the lack of commitment to international legitimacy and the resolutions of the United Nations Commission on the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination because the doors of dialogue were closed.
