RCD dissidents to form new party

RCD dissidents to form new party
RCD's leader Said Saadi

Former senior members of the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD) are holding consultations to come up with a new political movement or party with a national dimension.

  • Dissidents from Said Saadi’s party and former politicians are expected to announce a unified decision in the next few days.
  •
  • A founder of the RCD said it is time to unify tens of executives and former members of the party in one signle formation. The initiative comes as part of the new political liberty in Algeria.
  •
  • The dissidents will try to benefit from the positive effects of the political reforms announced by President Bouteflika. According to observers, they may include the creation of new formations and allow many individuals to join parties.
  •
  • Sources say the consultations will include various provinces and will not be limited in big cities only. The new initiative will be an alternative as the RCD would not put away the regional character.
  •
  • Previously, the dissidents postponed the announcement of a new political party saying conditions were not appropriate. The global political reforms which will be announced soon may offer those conditions, say observers.
