Refinery Algerian workers warn over self-immolation
The sufferance of Soral-Chine’s workers in the Sbaa Refinery in the province of Adrar (south of Algiers) reached its second day on Wednesday.
- National Gendarmes surrounded the refinery using trained dogs to prevent the Algerian workers from entering the factory while they allowed Chinese workers to enter.
- Check points were put in the Road No 6 to prevent any car carrying food to the Algerian workers from entering. About 250 workers who are on strike are left in the desert under high temperature and strong wind.
- Some of them told Echorouk they will set fire on themselves if official do not intervene and find a solution as soon as possible.
- According to a release, the workers said their five-year-sufferance with the Chinese associate was the last straw and pushed them to go on strike.
- They asked Algeria’s energy group Sonatrach to bear the responsibility and supervise them instead of leaving them as a toy in the hands of the Chinese company.
- They also called on Algerian President Bouteflika to intervene to recover their dignity.
