Relatives of Ben Ali visit Algeria
Members of the Forum of the Algerian Enterprises Leaders received two Tunisian businessmen close to the toppled Tunisian president Ben Ali. They fled their country to Algeria on Thursday and Friday.
- Rich businessman Marwane Al Mabrouk, the husband of Ben Ali’s daughter was accompanied with the chief of Hachicha Group. They have good relationships with Algerian businessmen from the Forum.
- Al Mabrouk’s investments include banks and telecommunication companies. He mysteriously obtained the fourth mobile phone licence in Tunisia. He also has big supermarkets. One of them based in the capital Tunis was burnt by protestors on Saturday.
- His group includes a set of polyvalent companies which started operating in 1960. In 1971, Mohcine Hachicha created a company to manufacture plastic and established many other companies in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Of them, there is Electro Star which was created in 1993. The Group is a historic shareholder in the Arab International bank of Tunisia and the Groupe des Assurances de Tunisie.
- The family is one of the closest persons to the Ben Ali’s. Few weeks ago, Fathi Hachicha said Tunisian businessmen in constant contact with other businessmen in all over the world. “They are impressed by mutations in infrastructures and President Ben Ali’s general policy from year to year. He became an example cited by politicians in the world.”
