Religious scholars call for the cancellation of usurious interest rates

The teacher at the University of Islamic Studies, Professor Kamel Bouzidi has indicated that taking out loans with usurious interest rates was forbidden in the Islamic religion even if the percentage was lesser than 1%.

  • This fatwa comes at the moment were most of the young people showed reluctant to the various formulas established by the authorities to help them finance their projects.

  • Doctor Bouzidi has asserted that “religious clerics are calling on the authorities to find out new formulas to finance the projects initiated by the young entrepreneurs with 0% interest rates, considering the move manageable”.

  • For his part, the chairman of the banks association Abderrehmane Ben Khalfa has denied, in a declaration to “Echourouk”, the existence of banks that grant loans to young businessmen without interest rates contending that the rules governing the financial activities are based on competition.
