Return Of Importing Used Cars Less Than Three Years Old

Return Of Importing Used Cars Less Than Three Years Old

Trade Minister, Bakhti Belaaab, announced on giving the license to import cars with less than three years old at the beginning of 2017, after a ban that lasted seven years, and according to the special conditions that will protect the interest of the consumer, which will be determined later.

In contrast, active sources in the import and marketing of cars, said that the decision will face a lot of uncertainty, arguing that the question is: “Will the import be confined on concessionaires only, or will the citizens also benefit from it as well”, as this decision is expected to change the prices of the new and even the old cars in the market.

Trade Minister asserted, during a forum that was hosted by the newspaper “El Moudjahid”, the return to importing cars with less than three years old, according to the special conditions, and considered that the procedure is proposed in the Finance Bill for the year 2017, and will take into consideration the traffic security and safety.

On the other hand, sources from the automotive sector, said that the new resolution will contribute significantly to the reduction of cars’ prices that noticed four consecutive increases in two years, making the cars’s prices reach at least 1.000.000 DZD in the market, arguing that the authorization to import cars less than 3 years old will open the floodgates for a price break, and Algerians may return to the acquisition of cars at the price of 600.000 DZD, especially if the citizens are allowed to import cars.

“This decision will remain vague on the level of 3 points, and the state is asked firs to adjust the control mechanisms to prevent the entry of scrap cars to the market, after the hard efforts that were undertaken in the past, through the book that specified conditions for the standards to import cars, which entered into force officially in the month of March 2015 “.
