“Salafists” in Algeria have betrayed the Palestinian cause

A large number of Imams or preachers as well as Muslim scholars belonging to the Islamic supreme council and the Algerian Muslim scholars’ Union in addition to those from several Zaouias or Coranic schools in various parts of Algeria have firmly castigated the Salafist trend for their “treacherous” silence at the wanton Zionist military aggression against the defenseless Palestinians in the Gaza strip.

They argued that the members of the Salafist trend had remained idly by in the face of the Israeli military onslaught on the Gaza population adding that the Salafists’ deafening complacency was tantamount to treason of the Palestinian cause.

Sheikh Mohamed Sharif Kaher, head of the Islamic supreme Fetwa council told Echorouk that the Zionist aggression on Gaza should be firmly denounced and condemned by all humankind especially by the Muslim community members around the world as such a wanton aggression is a sheer genocidal war launched by the Zionist war machine against the Palestinians whose only fault is to demand the end of occupation and the right to live in peace, in freedom and independence.

He further hit out against certain Gulf regimes and their subservient Muslim preachers who have barred their peoples from staging street demonstrations to voice in the face of the world community their utter condemnation of the Zionists forces’ brutal war on Gaza and to express their full and active solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people.
