Algeria and Iraq prepare a memorandum of understanding between Algeria and Iraq, on combating terrorism and organized crime and exchanging experiences, the undersecretary of the Interior Ministry for Intelligence and Investigations in Iraq, Maj. Gen. Maher Najm Abdul Hussein Al-Taie, said on Monday.

Al-Taie said that his visit to Algeria comes within “the framework of negotiations on the preparation of a memorandum of understanding between Algeria and Iraq based on combating terrorism, organized crime and methods that are used by terrorist groups, and the exchange of experiences”, in this regard, he praised the readiness of the Algerian authorities “for this cooperation and high coordination” between the two countries.

He highlighted Baghdad’s commitment to “strengthen this cooperation by embodying the draft memorandum”, asserting that the Interior Minister, Noureddine Badaoui, was invited to visit Iraq and that the signing of the memorandum would be during the visit.

The Iraqi official said that the “national reconciliation” in Algeria “is a great example in the Arab region”, adding that the Iraqi government is applying the experience of this national reconciliation, and is following “the same approach to the establishment of security and law enforcement in all areas of Iraq”.

“Iraqi government is keen to cooperate with all countries of the world – except Israel – to confront terrorist organizations, including ISIS, which is still trying to apply sabotage and tampering with the lives and property of Iraqi citizens”.

After the talks, the Iraqi delegation followed with the Interior Ministry a presentation on the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation.
