Security cooperation: Intensification of visits exchange between Algeria and the U.S.

ALGIERS-The exchange of visits at high level for security cooperation between Algeria and the United States has intensified over the past two years.

The U.S. President’s senior adviser for homeland security and counterterrorism, John Brennan, two-day visit to Algeria on Monday described as “strong” the cooperation between the two countries, especially in the counterterrorism.

“President Obama noted the efforts of Algeria and its cooperation in the fight against (the terrorist organization) Al-Qaeda and its affiliates,” stressing that the U.S. “learned from the experience of Algeria which has successfully fought terrorism.”

Several U.S. officials visited Algeria in 2009 and 2010, including Secretary of the Navy Raymond Mabus, Commander of AFRICOM, Major General David Hogg, Deputy Assistant of U.S. Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Joseph McMillan, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Africa in the Office of the Secretary of Defense Vicki Huddleston, said the U.S. embassy in Algiers.
