Security forces to open an inquiry at three major Algerian ports
Algerian security forces opened an inquiry in the ports of Algiers, Oran and Annaba over shady deals concerning the selling of empty containers through mutual agreements with a gross total estimated at $ 1.4 billions, reliable source s have revealed to Echourok.

The elements of security have foiled an attempt to sell 700 other empty containers, the same sources have revealed.

The first elements of the investigation have revealed that part of the containers were the property of the liquidated company “ Cartral” that were sold to private operators by some managers who are now in prison on charges of corruption.

The inquiry will shed light on further facts qualified as very serious, the sources added.

The scandal broke out after thorough investigations carried out by the economic brigade of the national security that lasted several months in the wake of unnamed letters denouncing shady practices and corruption at the level of these ports.

It should be noted that the public prosecutor of the court of Algiers has put under judicial control and remanded in custody, the present and former General Manager of the port of Algiers in addition to five other top managers within the same institution.

On the other hand, the judicial authorities have put under judicial control the General Manager of the port of Oran, western Algeria, on charges of money squandering causing a loss of 100 thousand Euros to his company and the illegal seizure of 89 containers carrying domestic electrical appliances.
