Senators Call Upon French Government To Compensate Harkis Financially

French Senate called upon his country’s authorities to launch a comprehensive statistical process of civil Harkis about whom he said they “served” France during the Algerian revolution, and compensate them financially on their support and their service to France during the Algeria war.

According to the written question by the Senator Brigitte Micouleau dated on September 22, 2015 number 22,267, she “draws the attention of the French State Ministry of Defense in charge of war veterans directly to the need to launch statistics of the ancient civil Harkis personnel who belong to the common-law and who served France during the Algerian war”.

French Senator spoke about the Constitutional Council’s decision of February 19, 2016 to open the right to benefit from the grant of recognition for civilian harkis veterans provided they have submitted an application to this in the history between February, 5, 2011 and December 19, 2013, adding that after the administration refused their demands, they proceeded the conflict that is not yet over.

She considered that these actions deprived the largest part of the civilian Harkis and assistants from the recognition grant by the French state grant, asking the government to give an explanation about what is seeking to do about the statistical process to enable them to obtain a formal grant.
