Several Unions freeze key sectors' activities in Algeria

Seven independent Unions from various sectors of activities including health and education have yesterday resorted to a protest movement awaiting other unions to do so, on account of the reluctance of their relevant supervisory ministers to fulfill their requests.

  • M. Idir, Algeria’s High Schools Committee spokesman has revealed that the union has “paralyzed” 65 high schools in Algiers and 25 others in Bejaia, indicating that more than 20 province across the country have responded to the protest call.
  • The protesters have called for the revision of their wages policy and making public the compensation system as well as the allowances in the education sector.
  • For their part, the health sector’s employees have decided to prolong their strike for the second day in a row. Estimates released by the Union reveal that the movement was observed at 78% across the country.
  • On the other hand, the meeting of the National Bureau of Taxi Drivers Union wound up with the decision to go on a cyclic strike by the end of each month in addition to a sit-in by the transportation ministry premises until the fulfillment of their demands.
