Sonatrach’s General Manager orders an all-out assessment on the company’s activities between 2003-2009

The newly appointed General Manager of the Algerian Hydrocarbons company “ SONATARACH”» , Noureddine Charouati is due to meet at the company’s headquarters here in Algiers the managers of the company’s branches based in southern Algeria to investigate on several contracts sealed by mutual agreements with Algerian private companies and foreign ones over the period between 2003-2009.

  • The move comes after the article released by Echourok on May 8that shed light on several malpractices linked to fictitious jobs pushing the new General Manager to move to the south to confer with the top managers on spot asking them to prepare in-depth assessments about the management methods followed by the former General Manager Mohammed Meziane.
  • The meeting coincides with a series of investigations carried out by the security forces over fictitious jobs within “SONATRACH” and mutual agreement contracts ordered by the then- upstream activities Vice President ( B.B) and the one of the managers at the Human Resources department , both of them in custody, accused of  giving high salaries to managers on professional trainings or living abroad.
  • Several other top managers from the Oil Rigs National Company, National Drilling Company and the National Company of Geophysics were suspended for being involved in sealing an 8 million Euros worth illegal contract with “Boots and Couts” company and “Naftogaz”.
  •  The investigations have revealed that one of the managers have recruited 150 people from his native region infringing the legislation that governs the employment’s requirements.
  • Another inquiry was launched to investigate on the activities of the joint-venture company ‘ MCIS”, “WSAHARA” specialized in pipelines that  sealed a subcontract with an Egyptian firm whose main task consisted in transferring huge sums of money abroad with the complicity of top managers sons working in the National Oil Rigs Company.
  • A top manager who took part to the meeting with the Sonatrach’s General Manager has revealed that this later has ordered the managers of the above mentioned companies to forward through reports concerning the contracts sealed by mutual agreements with national and foreign companies.
