Sonatrach’s workers warn over paralyzing gas wells
Hundreds of Sonatrach’s workers warned over paralyzing gas wells in Hassi Rmel as authorities did not respond to their claims.
- The protesters gathered out of Sonatrach’s regional department in Hassi Rmel south of Laghouat province (south of Algiers) to renew their claims.
- They accused the central administration of neglecting their requests and they hung placards saying they may paralyze the wells. A commission from the general department arrived Thursday to Hassi Rmel to meet the workers’ representatives in an attempt to end their anger.
- The workers ask for compensation following a pay raise and unifying profitability bonus to include all the categories of workers.
- A few days ago, Sonatrach’s CEO Nourredine Cherouati visited Hassi Rmel in an attempt to ease anger among the workers. He was accompanied by the vice-director, the executive director of human resources, representatives of the Hydrocarbons Federation and Secretary General of Sonatrach’s national union.
- Cherouati promised to consider 14 requests and he fixed a deadline to reply to all the presented concerns. Yet, the deadline expired.
