Special greetings to Gaza at the Ninth edition of the Amazigh film in Algeria
The ninth edition of the Amazigh film presented Palestinian movies that showed the sufferance of the Palestinians under the Israeli military machine.

“Palestine Blues” by Nida Sinnokrot, told during 72 minutes, the tragedy of the Palestinians when crossing checkpoints by Israeli soldiers.

Director of “Palestine blues” entered Israel with a US passport, and took live images of the Palestinians’ daily sufferance. It also showed Israeli soldiers uprooting olive trees and looting people’s lands, using weapons and bullets in the face of poor women and innocent children tears.

The movie showed the daily massacres by the Israeli occupation and the killing of western peace activists in the region, who tried to break the blockade using simple cameras.

Director Nida tried to deal with the Palestinians’ daily tragedy, using a Shakespearian tragedy, and making her work a vivid testimony, which gave strength to its characters.

Jury of the ninth edition of the Amazigh film festival, held in Tamenrasset, South of Algeria, from 11 to 15 January, decided to omit three awards, including best long film, best male and female roles, in order to preserve the credibility of the festival, said the chairman of the jury Ali Mouzaoui.

Morocco was awarded for the second time, with best film music for “My brother Tarek” by Abdellah El Abdouni. The movie tells the story of the Amazigh hero “Tarek Bin Ziyad” who opened Andalusia; its music combined both heritage and universality.

Best short film was awarded for the Moroccan Aloui El Maharzi for his “Azurane” which means “Roots”. This work impressed the jury because of its strong image and expressive voice without dialogue; it showed, as a silent film, the strength of the word and the poetic image.

“Best cartoon” was awarded for “Afaz Màtoub” for his “Our planet’s treasure” because it uses high tech. “Best documentary” was given to Rabeh Boubras for his “Thamourt Adourare” which means “Country of mountains”; it combined the Swiss and the Kabilian environments.

“Money tour” by Ait Ibrahim Hafid got a special award by the jury as an encouragement for the director, who, despite the lack of materials, was able to provide a good cinema.

“Best Scenarios” were granted for Ahsen Saib for his “As to condemn also you can become condemned” and Abdelmadjid Djebour for his “Towards the unknown”.

The closing ceremony raised a special greeting to Gaza’s people and all the Palestinians, through presenting special show by the Algerian choreographer Safi Boutella.
