Speculation affects cement prices on the market

Cement prices have skyrocketed to reach 600 DZD per sac while the price didn’t exceed 470 DZD three months ago, prompting a series of emergency meetings between Algerian Real Estates Developers Union and the Algerian Real estates developers Association.

• The head of the Algerian Developers Association Mohammed Makhloufi has indicated to Echourouk that the cause behind this sudden price surge was speculation that reaches its peak before the summer season.

• This particular period of time witnesses a hectic activity where the operators try to catch up the delay registered during winter, but the interlocutor has asserted that the cement price is due to reach 700 DZD knowing that most of the major projects are bound by specific deadlines.

• For his part, Mohammed Ben Chihab has noted that cement prices have soared in the black market affecting the operators, singling out the irregularities between different areas of the country.
