Stolen cars international network dismantled in Algeria

Security forces Wednesday caught 238 cars including vehicles wanted by the Interpol in the province of Ghardaia (west of Algiers). Of them, 40 cars were seized in different provinces in the country.

  • Earlier in November 2009, judicial police launched an investigation into cars coming from many provinces without original basic dossiers.
  •
  • Security investigations show that 30 people are involved. They come from Setif, Djelfa, Algiers, Msila and other provinces. Some of them are living abroad. Three administrative agents were also involved.
  •
  • A total of 32 names of non existing personalities were used.
  •
  • The dossier was submitted to the prosecuting attorney in a court in Ghardaia. He summoned the suspects. Eight of them were introduced to the examining judge in late May. One of them was jailed.
  •
  • The members of this network used the Algerian and Tunisian borders to smuggle and sell those vehicles.
