Strict Surveillance at Algerian Airports and Ports to Halt Zika Virus

Health, Population and Hospital Reform Minister, Abdelmalek Boudiaf, revealed on emergency measures to halt the “Zika” killer virus, with obliging hospitals to take caution and distribute free medicine for people in case of a Zika virus infection.

“Airport and land borders are all provided with a list of the names of the countries which registered Zika virus infections.”
Boudiaf added, in a statement, on the sidelines of the conclusion of the autumn session, that Algeria is the only country that provides free medication for patients. It also sent a list to the airports, land borders and ports to halt the virus which may be carried by travellers.
With regard to the preventive measures that were taken by the Health Ministry to halt the virus, the minister asserted that caution is necessary in each hospitals across the nation.
“World Health Organization is working with the United Nations to confront this virus, as the latter praised the efforts that were made by Algeria by holding two meetings with the person in charge of the Zika virus, and he called upon all African countries to follow the example of Algeria.”
Health Minister ordered hospitals not to neglect the maintenance and cleaning operations, and the creation of green spaces and show commitment to perform the duties that were assigned to them, and pay attention to ensuring the necessary care for patients, improve working conditions for doctors and ensure the provision of medicine in hospitals.
With regard to the lack of services in some provinces, like Batna, Boudiaf said that the problem was exposed at the level of emergency and it was treated permanently, adding that he will personally pay a two-day inspection visit to the city in order to launch some new health facilities.
