Stringent security measures by local authorities to curb troubles during the New Year’s Eve celebrations

As usual during this period, the New Year’s Eve celebrations have witnessed several unrests from zealous revellers under the influence of Alcohol, despite stringent security measures deployed by the security forces that concluded with the arrest of dozens of troublemakers and the seizure of huge quantities of liquors

• The popular uprising that rocked recently the Tunisian capital city, Tunis have pushed thousands of revellers from the eastern provinces of Algeria , who planned to celebrate the New Year’s Eve in the Tunisian night clubs  and hotels, to shift their destination to the Algerian province of Annaba, highly praised for its coastal road.

• This unexpected movement of drunken men and women has pushed the security forces to beef up their security plan including raids on hot spots carried out by huge a number of police and gendarmerie officers, leading to the arrest of 60 individuals on charges of drunk driving in various areas.

• 70 others were arrested and transferred to the gendarmerie headquarters on charges of breach of the peace and immoral acts including the arrest of dozens of couples in cars among them minors.

• The interventions of the security forces were salutary as they prevented several troubles in public squares thanks to the seizure of staggering quantities of liquors destined to be consumed by the revellers.

•   Clashes broke out between the drunken revellers inside the nightclubs causing dozens of injuries and the celebrations could turn to a tragedy if not the intervention of the security forces. However, the New Year’s Eve has witnessed a tragic crime carried out by a 30 year old man who beheaded another young man ( 25) with a sword under the influence of alcohol.

• The industrial zone of Constantine, eastern Algeria, was transform to a giant outdoor bar on this occasion, good weather conditions have made it  possible for the bar owners to transport their liquors and buy them on spot and satisfy the clients.

•  This illegal practice has turned the industrial zone to a giant garbage dump as thousands of bottles and cans were covering the ground to the happiness of the bartenders who garnered staggering sum of money overnight.
