Students clash with security forces in Algiers

The march initiated by the National Coordination of the Independent Students was transformed to a sit –in at the street adjacent to the central university of Algiers following drastic security measures deployed by the local authorities cordoning off the whole area.

• The protesters raised slogans calling for making the university available to the masses and others, more political, calling for the demise of the regime and a radical change in the country.

• Clashes broke out between the protesters and the security forces leading to several injuries, meanwhile, fire broke out at “ Kheir Eddine Barbarousse” high school, which is located nearby the central university but the incident didn’t leave any corporal damage.

• The protesters tried to storm the university in a move to facilitate exit to their comrades who were inside, but the riot- police prevented them to do so. The tug of war between the students and the security forces lasted more than three hours
