Substantial financial package allotted to Algeria's southern Beriane municipality for renovation of damaged houses

In a statement to Echorouk newspaper, the Wali or Governor of Ghardaia province announced the allotment of a significant budget for the renovation of Beriane houses damaged during the recent intercommunity riots which had jolted the region for several weeks sparking fears of an all-out conflagration.

The rioting left dozens of injured and caused extensive material damage notably to houses as well as to public and private buildings.

The Ghardaia governor had, earlier, chaired a broad-based meeting bringing together Beriane local authorities, notables and heads of local associations as part of efforts to clear the air and put an end to the wave of agitation in this municipality of the Algerian south.

A consensus was reached during the encounter about the imperious necessity of fostering a spirit of dialogue and mutual trust among all the parties concerned in a bid to restore peace and quietude in the whole region.

According to Echorouk reporter on the spot, life is gradually returning to normal in Beriane with the reopening of shops, businesses and schools in the aftermath of the latest spiral of violence which affected this southern municipality and its surroundings.
