Suicide bomber’s brother accused of terrorism in Algeria

A court in Oran (west of Algiers) Tuesday opened the case of 17 suspects working for an organised terrorist group including a suicide bomber’s brother and Islamic school students.

 

  • Five men appeared in court for joining an organised terrorist group while investigators are still searching for the rest of the suspects. The men were arrested in 2007 following security investigations.

  • In July 2007, a suicide bombing took place causing considerable human and physical casualties. Suicide bomber Abu Sadjida’s brother was arrested. He used to go with other suspects to a traditional Islamic school to teach the Quran in Sania in Oran.

  • Security forces seized CD-Roms containing terrorist attacks and bombings in Algeria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Chechnya, a computer and a photocopier. The rest of the suspects were arrested and they were introduced in court. Most of them denied the accusations.
