Syrian Official: « Algeria is Spearheading an Alliance Versus the Gulf Regimes »

The minister of Maghreb affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel on a visit to Syria said Sunday that Algeria supports the political solution and the local reconciliation in Syria, noting that Algeria is firmly backing Syria’s national unity and cohesion.

Mr Messahel pointed out that his working visit to Damascus comes days after the Syrian people celebrated the anniversary of Independence Day which carries great symbolism for the Algerians who know the meaning of independence and freedom and who had suffered a lot from terrorism and remained steadfast in facing it with no respite.

Mr Messahel further expressed Algeria’s solidarity with Syria in facing the nefarious plague of terrorism, while pointing to Algeria’s telling experience in fostering national reconciliation and dialogue among the people and supporting the political solution to crises everywhere in the world.

Shortly after his arrival in Damascus, Mr Messahel held talks with the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Humam al-Jazairi on ways of shoring up bilateral cooperation and topical issues of common concern.

After the encounter, Mr Al-Jazairi said that Algeria is always the closest to Syria and the best one to understand what is going on given its historical experience in struggling for liberation and independence of national decision.

Minister al-Jazairi hailed the objective and wise positions of Algeria about the crisis in Syria and the entire Arab issues.

He also said that the visit of Algerian minister Messahel to Syria expresses clearly and explicitly Algeria’s support for Syria’s independent national decision and its efforts to combat the terrorism scourge and find ways for economic and social recovery.

Furthermore, in this context, the Secretary of the Syrian Parliament Mr Khaled Aboud told Echorouk: “The relations between Algeria and Syria have never been interrupted throughout the aggression against the Syrian nation and Algeria has had a wise and level-headed position regarding the Syrian issue contrary to that of some other countries.”

The Syrian official that “Algeria is a strong, clear-sighted and wise state in its diplomatic decisions and has always defended just causes such as the Palestinian one and has always attacked the enemies of the Arab nation adding that Algeria is spearheading a front of steadfast refusal alongside the Syrian and Iraqi political forces against US imperialism which uses the Gulf regimes to achieve its destabilizing objectives”.
