Tanzania to play Algeria with three professionals only

The Tanzanian delegation comprising 20 players is due to arrive to Algeria this afternoon ahead of the match versus the Algerian squad slated for September 3, in Tchaker stadium, Blida.

• The Danish coach of the Tanzanian squad Poulssen has decided to keep three professionals only at the end of the training camp of the team namely: Henry Joseph who plays in the Norwegian league, Nizar Khelfan who plays for the club Vancouver in Canada and Danny Maruanda who plays in Vietnam.
• Poulssen resorted to count out some key players for injuries and others for technical reasons.
• 26 players held a training camp since August 23
• As part of the preparations for the match against the Algerian side, the Tanzanian national team started a training camp in the capital city Dar Essalem since August 23. The main objective of the new coach Ian Borg Poulssen, who replaced the Brazilian Marcio Maximo, is to select the fittest players ahead of the match versus the Algerian “ Greens”.
• The Tanzanian squad were trounced by the Egyptians in a friendly match 6-0  and another friendly versus Kenya that wound up in a one-all draw.
• The upcoming match will be the fifth confrontation in the history of the two national teams; Algeria played four official matches against Tanzania and a friendly one in the past. Three matches wound up in a victory in favour of Algeria while the fourth one was in favor of the other side.
• One participation in the African competition
• The Tanzanian squad unique participation to the African cup of Nations competition goes back to 1980 and held the last position in the ranking of the group after a defeat against Egypt, Nigeria and a draw versus Ivory Coast.
• Tanzania hold the 111 position in the FIFA classification while Algeria comes at the 33 position.
