Mr Tayeb Zitouni, the Algerian Minister of Moujahidine or war veterans, will pay next Tuesday a working visit to France, the first of the like by a Mudjahidine Minister in the country since Algeria’s hard-won independence from the former colonizer.

This working visit will focus on three main files, including the Algerian archives, missing persons during the Glorious Revolution and compensations for damages caused by the nuclear tests in southern Algeria

Furthermore, the Minister, during a meeting with the media, expounded the purpose of his visit to France to avoid a recurrence of any damaging controversy similarly to that prompted by his predecessor Mohamed Cherif Abbas.

The minister said it is time for the two countries to resolve outstanding issues.

During his upcoming visit to France, Mr Tayeb Zitouni will meet with Secretary of State to the French Minister of Defence, in charge of war Veterans Affairs and Memory with whom he will examine such pending issues as the compensation of Algerian victims of French nuclear testing in Reggane and elsewhere in the south of Algeria and the problem linked to the retrieval of the Algerian archives and the issue of the missing during the lofty national liberation war.
