Terrorists killed 14 soldiers east of Algiers
At least 14 Algerian soldiers perished and 10 injured on Friday by a terrorist group in an attack on an army post in Tigzirt, east of Algiers, officials said.
Algerian forces and counter terrorism teams surrounded the group of 50 terrorists, including important leaders, in the forest of Azazga, east of Algiers.
According to information, obtained by Echorouk in the region, a group of more than 20 terrorists, carried out at 7:20 pm Friday a terrorist attack using machine guns and grenades on an army post at the entry of Azazga forest, 3 km from Tigzirt (the Kabylian region) east of Algiers, 150 m of the National Road N° 12.
Eyewitness from the villages of the region said the terrorist attack was accompanied by violent clashes for almost two hours, while others asserted that a terrorist group carried out a fake check point at about 7:00 pm in a place called Lafontaine Fraiche, blocking the road of more than 40 cars.
Security services, which moved to Tagma barracks, 8 km Far East of Iekourene (east of Algiers), succeeded to reach the place of attack after half an hour of clashes until the arrival of air supply. The armed troops controlled the situation and forced terrorists to retreat after killing three and injuring several among their fellows. A terrorist was found dead Saturday morning one meter on the National Road N° 12.
Armed troops continue the hunt for terrorists in Azazga forests until 2 am on Saturday, while they dismantled five roadside bombs that were planted in the area.
Officials moved on Saturday morning to the scene in order to stand up to the effects of the terrorist attack. In parallel with this attack, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the attack on Algerian soldiers in a statement here on Saturday.
